Boat surf trip:
the Maldives

In 2027 we're bringing our surf trips back. We live on a boat and chase the swell through the atolls — wherever the swell and the offshore wind are that day. The next windows: May–June and September–October 2027. Leave your contact details — we'll announce the boat, the route and the price closer to the dates.

GETTING THERE

How to get there

Fly into Malé; from there the route depends on the atolls and the boat. We'll help you find flights and the domestic transfer.

WHERE WE SURF

From the Malé atolls to the south of the Maldives

In the Maldives the waves break on reefs off dozens of islands. From land you're tied to one or two spots; from a boat you go wherever the swell is and the wind is offshore that day. A dhoni — a local boat — runs alongside the mothership: it takes you to the line-up, waits through the whole session, and the boards stay on it.

MALÉ

The Malé atolls

The best-known spots — Sultans, Cokes, Lohis — are close to the airport, a short speedboat ride away. Waves for every level, but also the most crowds.

CENTRAL

The central atolls

140 kilometres south, an overnight crossing. Mikados, Machines, Yin Yangs — long reef waves for confident intermediates and up. Few boats, almost no wind.

SOUTH

The southern atolls

Powerful waves for advanced surfers — Beacons, Blue Bowls. A 55-minute domestic flight and a boat. Best in spring and autumn.

A DAY ON BOARD

A day on the boat

Dawn

First session from 5:30, breakfast on board, rest.

Daytime

Second session before lunch, lunch, snorkelling or a deserted island.

Sunset

Third session, dinner. Some days go on crossings between atolls.

WHEN

Two windows in 2027

The Maldives season runs from March to October, with the most consistent swell from May to August.

MAY–JUNE

The waves build

May is the run-up to the peak: 4–6 ft waves and offshore wind; June is already the peak, 5–8 ft. It's the rainy season, with short squalls.

SEPTEMBER–OCTOBER

Cleaner and calmer

Between the monsoons: little or no wind, 3–6 ft waves, clean and even. Fewer people than in summer. A good window for intermediates.

WHO IT'S FOR

From beginners to advanced

We match the atolls and the waves to the group's experience. A coach and a Russian-speaking guide work with the group, and we go through your surfing on video. At some spots the waves break over reef and you need to surf confidently on your own; for beginners we'll find suitable conditions. Non-surfing partners can come along too.

LEVEL

Matched to your experience

The route and the spots are chosen for the group's level.

REEF

Waves over reef

The waves are long and rarely close out, but they break over reef — you need to be confident on your board.

WINDOW

For intermediates

September–October: cleaner, smaller waves.

Price

Announced together with the boat

On requestthe boat, the route and the package will be chosen for the dates and the group
MENTAWAI

The second destination

Islands 100 kilometres off Sumatra — the most consistent waves in Indonesia, a season from April to October, peaking June–August. Charters leave from Padang, an overnight crossing, and a standard trip is 10–14 nights on board across four areas: Playgrounds, North Sipora, South Sipora, Pagai. Level — confident intermediate and up. Mentawai dates will be announced separately.
