GETTING THERE

How to get there

Fly into Delhi or Chandigarh; from there to Manali via Kullu or Chandigarh, depending on flights. We'll help you find flights and line up the connections.

WHERE WE SKI

Manali: 500 km north of Delhi

Manali sits on the Beas river at about 2,000 m, among cedar forests, with peaks above 6,000 m all around. Most of the skiing is between 2,700 and 4,700 m, from the valley floors to the ridges; some drop-offs go up to 5,000 m.

RIDGES AND CIRQUES

Long ridges and mountain cirques

Most runs follow long rolling ridges and drop into steep mountain cirques.

GLACIERS

Wide glaciers

Huge rolling glaciers beneath 6,000-metre peaks.

TREES

Birch, oak, cedar

During and right after a snowfall — tree skiing in birch and oak groves, and when conditions allow, a run to the valley floor through cedar forest.

SNOW

Dry, faceted snow

Latitude 34°: long daylight hours and slopes of every aspect; up high the snow stays dry. February and March are colder and snowier; from late March it's spring snow.

NO-FLY DAY

Temples and hot springs

Hot springs, temples, Tibetan monasteries, the Roerich estate museum in Naggar.

HELICOPTER

Two Airbus H125s

Maintained by Indian and Swiss engineers, fuel checked every day. Baskets for wide skis and snowboards.

THE KULLU VALLEY

Where Nicholas Roerich lived

Manali stands at the top of the Kullu valley. In 1928 the painter Nicholas Roerich settled in Naggar, a village in this valley, and lived here for the last twenty years of his life, until 1947. His estate is a museum today: the artist's house with a gallery of his paintings, a museum of Himalayan folk art and the Urusvati institute founded by the Roerich family. It's one of the most beautiful places in the valley, and a visit to the Roerich museum is part of the trip.

WHERE YOU STAY

A hotel in Manali, with the helicopter on the hotel's own pad 30 metres away

Seven nights in a hotel in Manali, full board. The hotel's helipad is 30 metres from the rooms.

HOTEL

Spa and gym

Its own generator, so the town's power cuts don't reach the hotel. Sauna, hammam, spa, a masseur, a gym, billiards.

FOOD

In-house chefs

European, Indian and South-East Asian cuisine in turn. Dietary requests — in advance.

HELICOPTER

A pad 30 metres away

The helipad is in the hotel garden, 30 metres from the rooms. Two Airbus H125s, pilots from Switzerland.

WHO IT'S FOR

From a confident intermediate level

Many people think heliskiing is only for experts. The thing we hear most from first-timers before their first trip is "I'm not ready yet". This trip works both for experienced heliskiers and for those flying for the first time.

SNOW

Untracked snow forgives mistakes

Skiing from a helicopter is easier than resort freeriding on chopped-up snow. We fly to where nobody has been.

LEVEL

Runs chosen for your group

There's terrain for every level from confident intermediate to expert, and groups are put together by ability.

SAFETY

One guide per three and a full avalanche kit

One guide for three guests. Transceiver, airbag pack, shovel and probe are provided, with a briefing before the start.
